To be noted for the UK in 2011 there is one extra days holiday this year due the Royal Wedding on the 29th April 2011.
Public Holidays were introduced in 1871 when a law was passed in Britain called the Bank Holiday Act 1871. The Act defined four annual dates when banks would be closed in addition to Christmas Day and Boxing Day.
Bank Holidays UK shows a listing of all dates for 2011, 2012, 2013 and also lists the notable dates like Valentines Day and St Georges Day. If a bank holiday falls on a weekend then a substitute day is added to compensate. Dates this year consist of New Years Day on the 3rd January, Good Friday on the 22nd April, Easter Monday on the 25th April, Early May Holiday on the 2nd May, Spring Holiday on the 30th May, Summer Holiday on the 29th August, Christmas Day on the 26th December (substitute day) and Boxing Day on the 27th December (substitute day) which totals nine bank holiday dates for 2011.
